'In the midway of this our mortal life,
I found me in a gloomy wood, astray
Gone from the path direct...' ~ The Divine Comedy: Hell, Canto I

I like old things because they remind me that they will quite possibly outlast me. This Leica M3 was made on the 25th of March 1957 in a batch of 5000. Considering that it’s 5 days away from my birthdate in ‘87, it makes it feel quite special.
Every Leica comes with a story and naturally so does this one. The first M3 that I got from Ben Photo was a #801 914 with a cracked window on the film exposure counter. However, there was a constant problem with the film advance since it would seize up on me mid-roll, so I took it back and they gave me another one instead. However, the film exposure on that was broken so they gave me an M3 that was worth a good $50 more. I am pleased to say that this one works like a charm. I love the sound it makes during the double stroke and the way the shutter clicks. Magic.
The test roll returns this Saturday. Can’t wait!
